The following handout contains basic information and rules for the upcoming year.  If necessary, it is subject to change.  This is also found on the school’s website.

GRADES--Your grades are based upon:  homework, quizzes, chapter tests, projects and class participation.

School’s grading scale:

                    100-92 A

                    91-83    B

                    82-74   C

                    73-65   D

                    64-0    F

All Spanish I--IV students will take a comprehensive semester exam at the end of each semester.  This exam counts 20% of the semester grade.  I do not give final exams early.  If you miss the exam in December, you will have to make it up after Christmas vacation.  If you miss the exam in May, you will have to make it up in the summer.  Finals are important and so is your attendance --so plan to be here.

****All assignments can be found on my calendar on my site/school’s website.

Homework Policy Updated--If a student does poorly on an assignment and approaches me to redo the work, they have 24 hours to re-submit the assignment in person or via email to receive some additional credit rather than the previous low score.  It must be completed on a new sheet of paper.

Likewise if a student does not have their assignment done or completed by the due date, they also have 24 hours in which to complete it minus a 20% deduction (late charge) in addition to any possible mistakes made on the work.

***Students are NOT allowed to do incomplete work in class while the rest of the class is grading that assignment for the day and going over answers. It must be done on their own time outside of class.

Failure to follow this guideline will result in that work not being accepted at all.

ALL work in each Spanish class can be found on my calendar on the school’s website. Please bookmark the calendar.

If you leave your work in your locker, you can go and get it but will be issued a tardy. Work left at home, see above new policy.

Quiz and Test Policy Updated--

If a student does poorly on a quiz or test and would like the chance to improve their score, they must contact me to schedule a mutually agreed upon time to do so. Depending upon the length of the make up work, the retake might be done before or after school or mostly likely during 8th hour. Since we discuss the quiz and test answers the day after they are given, the student will have the opportunity to hear the correct answers and ask questions. The retake will be done the FOLLOWING day. The quiz/test will be different but still cover the same areas.  The higher score of the two will be recorded, not the average.

Missing class for whatever reason:  If you are absent, it’s your responsibility to find out what you missed.  I post all assignments for the week on my calendar  on the school's website.   Likewise, if you miss class due to any other absence such as a field trip, prearranged appointment or sports,

you must turn in work and take any necessary quiz/test prior to going.  You can also email written work.   If you return to school later in the day after missing this class, you will need to check the calendar on my site to see what your homework is and turn in your work due for that day.

***It’s up to you to talk to me if you are in need of an extension.

You are always encouraged to email me any questions you might have or ask for help if seeing me in person isn’t possible.  I will try my best to answer your questions.

SEATING CHART--Please be in your assigned seat and ready for class when the bell rings.  If you are not, you are late and will be issued a tardy.

In general, you will be given extra time at the end of class to begin assignments and get extra help.  If you need additional help, I’m available before and after school and during 8th hour. These are also the times for make-up quizzes and tests to be done--not during regular class time.

CLASSROOM RULES and Suggestions for Success

1.  Be on time, have your work and be prepared.

2.  NO gum, food or drinks in my classroom or hall.  Water is the exception.

3. Book covers are required.

4.  Be kind to others and be patient with yourself--no one is perfect!

5.  Spanish II, III, IV need dictionaries/downloaded or book form.

6.  If you have a problem or concern, I can’t help unless you talk to me.

See me for extra help or let me help you find a tutor.

7.  Have good attendance.

8.  Save vocabulary lists, worksheets and reviews in a folder to help you study for semester exams.

9.  Absolutely no phone usage in class unless given special permission. Phones should be put away during class.

10.  Students are expected to adhere to computer policy.  If you do not, you will not be allowed to use your computer in my class. Computers are a privilege--one that should be respected.

12.  Practice the quizlets I share with you and participate!

13.  Do NOT use Google Translate or similar sites to do your work; in other words, no cheating. I will give ZERO credit for work that I believe was not done by the student.
